Gift Idea....

I thought this would be a fun gift for a friend, teacher or anyone that you need a good, but inexpensive gift.  These little bags can hold and dispense jute, twine, ribbon, or string.

Cut a piece of burlap 11" tall and 18" wide.

Fold in half and stitch it closed on one side and bottom.

So it looks like this...

To make a gusset, so that your bag has a flat bottom, fold each corner of of the bag in a triangle and pin.  Stitch across the bag about 2 " from the tip.  Repeat on opposite corner.

To hem the top of bag turn edge under 3/4", press and stitch.  Turn right side out.

At this point the bag doesn't look like much....the secret is pressing all the lines into the bag so it looks more like a lunch sack.

All folds pressed.

Add an grommet about 1 1/2" from the bottom of the bag.

Cut a piece of chipboard the size of the base of your bag (about 5" x 3 1/4").  This makes the bottom and corners nice and crisp.

LABELS
I designed a couple of labels and ran them off onto Sticky Back Canvas.
Love Sticky Back Canvas, it makes printing on fabric so easy!

Cut labels out and stick them right on the bag.

This label I stitched and pinked the edge before attaching to bag.

BAG CLOSURES
The bag with the white label is closed with a 4" barbed elastic and button.
Insert the barbs from the back of the bag to the inside along top hem.

View from the outside of the bag....barbs are hidden inside.

Sew Idea-ology Accoutrements Button onto the front of the bag and loop elastic over for closure.

The bag with the black label is closed with an Idea-ology Plaquette and ribbon.  Using a large darning needle sew the plaquette on with ribbon sewing the bag closed and tie bow.

Won't one of these look cute sitting on your shelf!

have a great weekend,
deb
