New Rules

This is one of my favorite David Andres quotes...I have thought about it a lot this week when I realized that since Lorraine left to go home to Australia on Friday I have gotten up and put on the same soft grey v-neck t-shirt from Target.

I have 3 of the same t-shirt.

You see where this is going, don't you?

I think I may have a uniform.

Now, I will admit that if I went anywhere really important; church, dinner with the dh (dear husband), to some friend's house to play cards (oops, I wore it there), I changed to something more appropriate.

I did wear it to Costco, the grocery store, to Target... and of course while I have been here at home writing the instructions for the Advent.

When we were in college, my friend Liz and I had an ongoing joke...I refused to own a pair of sweats (this is before the days of Lululemon of course) and I think she only had sweats.  As a joke one time she even wore high heels with her sweats, just to make a point.

Fast forward too many years to count...when we showed up at her house on Saturday night to play cards she didn't even bat an eye.  And she never even mentioned the word "uniform" even though I was wearing the exact same thing (grey t-shirt of course) as the last time she saw me.  Thank goodness she has a bad memory for details.

I guess my point in telling you about my grey t-shirt obsession is the fact that both Deb and I have been super busy getting the shipment ready for Friday and the "uniform" has been a real life saver (something I didn't have to think about).

I am quite sure Deb hasn't left her house in days.

Thank goodness Lorraine visited me so I had an excuse to drive up the coast to take a tour of Hearst Castle, see 100's of Elephant Seals in San Simeon as well as eat some Aebleskiver's (Danish Pancakes)in Solvang.  We saw the miniature horses at the Quicksilver Ranch in Santa Ynez (love that place), and the Santa Barbara Mission too.

As far as the Advent goes...the class is sold out and there are only four three kits left, thanks Karen!  So in celebration of Debbie being able to leave the house soon, we are doing a give away.

Advent jump start kit
25 tags, vintage bottle of glitter, hanging crystal, wish ticket, bingo card, a bag of ALL chipboard pieces found on the calendar, vintage watch face, dyed cheesecloth, fork, buckle, leaf, Eiffel tower dangle, bottle brush tree, and a CD with all the tag photos and written instructions.

To have a chance to win, leave us a comment...tell us your favorite tag on the calendar.
We will draw a name on Friday at noon.

  1. that is a great quote.
My uniform is a black skirt from Target with a lace hem. I have three of them...which I usually wear as a petticoat layer.
As for the tags...I think my favorite is #21 (which was tough, because #1 and #3 are also just lovely).

  2. I totally relate, my uniform includes cardigan sweaters and Gap tank tops. Its funny....I've just been contemplating this, whether I have it in me to mix it up more or just give in and claim it as mine! :)

My favorite tag on the advent is really anything with silver glass glitter, but I think its a tie between #2 and #16.

    Love it all, though!!!

  3. I'm in love with a pair of black knit pants with pockets that I got at Sam's Club YEARS ago! I wish I had bought 6 pairs of them. :\ Now I think I need to make my own pattern off of them and make more. *sigh*

I'm in love with Tag/Day 19. Love the frame, pix, and it seems to be an old key. :)

  5. A uniform! Brilliant! That's what I'll call my pajamas. It's bad when you buy your pajamas according to whether they could be called daywear or loungewear. Great giveaway. I think #1 is my favorite though. I'm a sucker for a rosette.

  6. What a great quote!
I'm loving all the tags, but #7 is my favorite --love, love, love the wings along with the music and clock face.

  7. My uniform has always been white shirt and khacki's. Glad people are coming around to my way of thinking! What a dream come true. I think I might be having heart palpitations. My favorite is the one with the angel wings, no, maybe it is the one with the bingo card, or it could be the one with the Christmas tree, or it might be the Eifel Tower, I know it’s the bird in the spoon…this is impossible! So my answer would be the last tag – Merry Christmas, because if I did them in order this would mean I had completed this fabulous project to enjoy for years and years. Thank you for creating and kitting this wonderful project!

  8. My favorite tag is the sweet bird and spoon one! I would so love to win this I keep looking at the kit but I just can't stretch my budget at this time of year. Uniform for me is black dress skirt pants with a plain colored top or cardi. Though I am jazzing a bit at the moment with brooches lol
    Thanks for the chance

  14. While all of them are wonderful, my favorite one is 21, with the star and the word joy, it reminds me that even though things are tough for me right now, there is always joy in my life.

  15. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the JOY tag ... a little tag like that would be wonderful to look at every day ... because there is joy out there everyday, waiting to be found !!
...And it can most easily be found in a uniform ... I so agree !!I wore a real(ugly) uniform to work for 10 years ... and now that I work for myself, I still do. I buy the shirt I like in all the colours, several pairs of the exact same jeans, same sweaters ... it is just too easy !!! I have better - and more fun!!- things to do every day ...!!!

  19. So my family has a uniform. Thanksgiving is usually the only holiday that all 7 of my family members can seem to get together and we always take a family picture. Our uniform consists of blue jeans and a black shirt. Last year Dh (who has only been part of the tradition for 4 years)comes in the living room and says "Alright let's go, I'm in my uniform!"

If I had to choose one tag, I guess it would be tag #21. They are all awesome!

  20. Oh yes, I definitly have that grey t-shirt from Target, and black and white and brown. Truth be told I have two of each and, well, I'm sure you know where this is going!!!

I love, love the bird in the spoon. The dimension and the thoughtfulness is spectacular.

  21. Oh I how I laughed at 'the uniform' because even though the style of my tops/bottoms change, the color pallete NEVER does. Black and white and shades of each. The way I see it- it's a classic that will never go out of style (and I don't have to worry about whether I 'match' or not!).
The entire advent calendar has me over the moon, but if I had to pick just one tag as the one that moves me the most- it's gotta be the sweet little tarnished ladle with the bird in it. Swoon!!!

  25. I love the tag with the star that says JOY! Because that's how I always want to feel right before Christmas...just the joy of family and the season and the memories and Jesus' birth!
I'm still smiling often when I look at the journal we made when you were in TX!!! Y'all are FUN and WONDERFUL!

  26. Ooooo! Number 3 and number 8 are my absolute favorites! And my uniform? A pair of knit, elastic waist (yes, I admit it!) pants that I'm sure could stand up by themselves some weeks! And yes, I have a grey t-shirt from Target too that I wish I would have bought in every color! I don't just feel sloppy today cuz I am now wearing my UNIFORM!

  27. Ha just love the quote.... I to have a uniform, it's an after showering and before going to work uniform of trackpants and tee shirt. Very comfortable and ideal for doing the housework in! 29. I've always considered black my uniform- everything always matches, and less to think about in the morning. I add variety with jeans or a white t or shirt. I'm sure some people think I'm a waiter.

The tags are all so amazing, although I think my favorite is 9 -always the eiffel tower, but 14, 15 & 16 are also amazing

  33. It is hard to pick a favorite, especially with that sweet little bird in the spoon, but I keep wanting a closer look at the tree on day 12 or the #22 tag. I like the elegant simplicity of both of those tags. I absolutely love Christmas and wish I had seen this earlier to get in on the fun. My birthday is Friday. Maybe I will win a jump start kit to celebrate the day!

  45. Hi!

Gosh, it's so difficult to say which tag is my favorite. They are all so artsy and fantastic, with just the right vintage look and very classy! I guess I'd have to say that the tag with the gravy ladel my favorite. It gave me ideas of things to do with treasured pieces from ancestors. It is so classy, and to be used to cradle the next--amazing! Your art is really gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing!

  50. How great to have a chance to win a starter kit. (Especially since my birthday is on Sat.) Choose ONE favorite tag...IMPOSSIBLE! Don't laugh, but I actually got out my magnifying glass in hopes that it would help me narrow the field. The birdie in the ladle is the most unique, but if I could only make one tag it would probably be #21. It's jeans and a t-shirt for me.

Dec 25th, well isnt that what the calender is leading up to, so that one is fun as well. I just love how you girls have been using the music paper on things....so I will admit that probably my favorite tag is #7. I love the wings, the dimensional aspect, the color on the wings...the entire tag is delightfilled. The whole calender is awesome, and you girls are just wild with imagination..thanks for sharing it with the rest of us! :) Becky P
