I said yesterday's tag might be my favorite but I may have to change my mind after today.
I was thinking, "
what haven't I tried yet?"
I finally decided to test how Distress Paint would work as a resist. I squeezed Distress Paint - Black Soot onto the Craft Sheet and grabbed a replacement foam pad for the blending tool. I know Ranger makes Cut and Dry foam but for the life of me I can't figure out where it is, so this little pad is going to do the trick for now.
I chose a Crafters Workshop stencil - Mini Harlequin (6 x 6") for my background and pounced the black soot Distress paint over the entire tag. You do have to move the stencil once for a #10 tag but it was quite easy to get the pattern lined up again.
Here is my result. The paint has great coverage, in fact I was happily surprised at how opaque it is in just one coat. Is the stencil job perfect? No, but I think that is just the nature of stencils in general, not the paint. I dried the tag with the Heat it tool and moved on to step two.
I am going to say right here that today's tag and color scheme was totally inspired by the last episode of Project Runway where they had to design a something for Heidi. The top three dresses were divine and I woke up in the night thinking about the colors and patterns. Inspriation comes from everywhere!
Alright back to the tag...Lets
see how Distress Stains work with Distress Paint. Remember once the Distress Paint is dry, it does not react with water so this should work just fine. I used three colors of Distress Stain: Tattered Rose, Tumbled glass, and Peeled Paint...but in very small doses. Each stain was mixed with water on the Craft Sheet before swiping the tag through the color. Each color was swiped multiple times to get the stain in just the right area and dried with the Heat it tool between swipes.
Here we go...first up Tattered Rose as the base color.

And just a hint of Peeled Paint.
The Distress Paint worked quite well as a resist to the stain. I was happy that the black soot color stayed perfectly black, even with all the layers of stain over the the top.
A little Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges (
is always a good thing).
Next I used a script stamp from the Mini Ornates set and black Archival ink to randomly stamp over the background.

I also stitched around the entire tag with my sewing machine.
Before I put the Distress Stains away I decided to color some Crinkle Ribbon. Spun Sugar is my favorite pink.
Then to add a vintage look to the pink I added some Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the Craft Sheet.
Sprayed it with some water.
And pounced the pink ribbon into it, turning it over a few times. You don't have to coat the entire ribbon just hit parts of it.
Once dry it is this nice vintage pink.
I need a focal point...so I stamped the LOVE
converstion heart from the Valentine Blueprint set onto watercolor paper
and cut it out.
Then colored it with Spun Sugar and Victorian Velvet Distress Markers. It's hard to see in this photo but I sprayed the heart with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist to give it a nice shimmer.
You know me, gotta have a Vial Label on everything I do, so why not this tag too. I used words from the Remnant Rubs

Okay, lets start putting it all together.
Stickers go on the top right.
Ribbon and heart go in the lower third. I did use foam dots under the heart to raise it off the background and added a small Remnant Rub right where the arrow is pointing (
be true).
One last thing, to embellish the tag. I used Distress Paint in Antique Linen, Mustard Seed and Forest Moss to color pieces of metal Idea-ology Foliage. I found that it was best to paint the metal with the dabber top and just leave it to dry for about 30 or 40 minutes.
I say that because I dried the first flower (
not pictured) with the Heat it tool, but in the end I mucked it up as I kept touching it to see if it was dry. What a dork.
Anyway, paint it, walk away, do a load of laundry and come back. They will be nice and dry and you won't have your fingerprint in the paint.
Looks like a little over easy egg!

Here is the finished tag. Seriously couldn't be happier with how it came out. Really love that paint on metal...totally doing that again. Love that you can mix the paints and stains to get different effects. The subtle stain color really plays off the black harlequin pattern.
This looks like beginnings of a good journal cover to me.
I thought I might shared a little trick I sometimes do. This might look like my next tag but it is really my "test" tag. Sometimes I like to test out ideas or colors before I add it to the tag or project I'm working on. It doesn't matter what it looks like, just so I can see how things work together. One of the things I learned today was that I needed to add water to the Broken China Distress Stain, as straight from the bottle was way too bold. I don't always use a test tag but sometimes I wish I had...really saves time in the long run.
