Mary Poppins Carpet Bag

So I thought I might talk today about display.
When we do the show booth, each wall has a 4ft ledge across the top where we create a vignette that shows a 12 x 12 layout or speaks to the product that is shown on the wall below.  Most pieces come from our houses, with the exception of a few pieces that I rented this time from Ruby Rose, my local vintage store.
This is one such ledge at the show.
The bird print is mine, of which I took the glass out in case it fell down (you never know when someone with a motorized cart is going to run into the booth wall), the artist pallet came from Ruby Rose.  The paint brushes and books are mine and the large photo is blown up from a small black and white photo that is part of the Trousseau line.  Totally my favorite ledge in the booth.
When I got home on Friday at 6:30pm I had to unpack everything in less than 24 hours because of a party we were having at our house on Saturday night.  Hence the title of this post...it was like Mary Poppins carpet bag, things just kept spilling out.

After the clothes, I started on the display bags.  So much to put away but when I pulled out the pallet I knew I was going to have to buy it, not just rent it.  And after a few minutes everything came together for a fun display on my mantel.  Big white corbels, old books, the artist pallet and paint brushes.  Some little wooden pins from a children's game and a real birds nest.  I am not sure I would have ever thought of it had Deb not put together the ledge in the booth.  Super simple gathering of items with similar colors that all work together to make a great mantel vignette.  I do know Valentines day is coming next week so it probably should be a red theme  right now, but there were no red valentines in my suitcase!

Next...

Okay, so remember when I made the glass dome with the butterflies?
Here it is at the show advertising the color rubbings...
And now at my house.
Don't you need a few of the new standing clips?
I have a cabinet in my small entry way and decided to change it up and make it a neutral/black color scheme so the butterflies would fit in and really be a focal point.  So after a bit of gathering from the junk cupboard...pulling anything creme, black or metal that would fit in the spaces, the shelves now support the idea of the curiosities dome.
Items I frequently use in displays: metal frogs to hold vintage pictures, clocks and old books.
Anything in multiples is good, especially when grouped together.  You can make a powerful design statement with ordinary items when they are in quantity.
Love adding quotes to give a bit of soul to a display.
I have a stack of quotes on the same kraft paper.  I switch them out when I need a new personal pep talk.  I also took a small frame that fit the space and adhered it directly to the cabinet with foam tape to frame the quote, just to give it a little more importance.  It really brings the eye to the space and  almost says, read me.
The 1, 2, 3 jars are from Anthropologie and the books with the gold lettering are from an estate sale ($1 each).
The quote reads:
"When we talk about settling the worlds
problems we're barking up the wrong tree.
The world is perfect.  It's a mess.
It has always been a mess.
We are not going to change it.
Our job is to straighten out our own lives."
-Joseph Campbell

An the last thing I will mention is books.  I can never have enough little books.  I particularly like small black leather books.  Really doesn't matter the subject, just that it is small enough to fit with the collection.  In the booth they were stacked backward so the pages showed but here the black leather works.
And the last item from the show.
The new Vintage stand with a beautifully created book by Sande Krieger.  You can see inside the book here (prepare to be inspired because no one does a mini book like Sande)
So my take on the stand since I don't Sande's fabulous book.
I cut a piece of book board to fit the width of the stand, painted it black then added a quote I created.
The stand has a small hole right below the flat part.  I used an S hook from this set and added a bit of junk just for fun.
I know the stand doesn't come out for a bit but if you are interested in the quote just send me an email (paula@2gypsygirls.com) and I will send you the PDF.   Just type "This is the Day" quote in the subject line and I will know what you want.

Update: Many of you have questions about the new Vintage Stand after this post.  It is 13" tall and 5" wide.  It retails for $19.99 and is being released in the second wave of products with Trousseau, which means April/May.  Sorry about the wait!

I hope today's post gives you some inspiration to try something different.  It doesn't have to be expensive and you might not even have to leave the house.  Just think... one color story, the use of multiples, or inspirational quotes.

cheers for a great day!

7gypsies Latest and Greatest - Trays & Displays

7gypsies has come up with two new trays to show off your favorite memories.  This one is the photo shadowbox tray.  It is deeper than the atc or photo trays which accommodate things with more depth.  We love them for displaying the mini bottles or anything else that sits on the ledge.

Everyone has been begging for it and it's finally here!  This easel holds any of the 7g trays or a favorite picture frame.
The fabulous Vicki Boutin created this fun tray by backing the tray with cork.   Also notice the fun technique of layering a color photo on top of a black and white photo.
Small photos were loosely wrapped around a pencil and inserted into the mini bottles.

Check out this fabulous tray by our friend and design team member, Sande Krieger.  We have included lots of close up shots so you can see all the details.
Note the new spiral hangers and hooks.
These are the loops that are currently available.
Sande loves to use 7gypsies stickers, rubbings and stamps, which she used throughout this project.

New product - 7g wood ruler and display trim studs.  The rulers come in white, black, and brown.  There are two kinds...numbers vertical and numbers horizontal.

New product -  display trim hook

Another new tray is the solo shadowbox tray.  This mini tray accommodates one 4x6 photo and three 2x2 photos.  It is quick to do and makes a great gift.

Paula did this one for a newborn baby gift.
.....and this one for a wedding gift.
Ann Mabee did this tray of her daughter Erin's family.  Look at all those girls! Darling!  The flags are made with 7gypsies paper tape.
Fun little display clip!
I am going to more than one of these!  ...and only $4.95!
That's it for today....see you tomorrow with more,

Back From CHA

We're home from a very full week at CHA.  It is a wonder to me the amount of work it takes to get everything ready to set up the booth and then two days of set up only to have it come down in a few hours.  We thought you might like to see a few "before" shots of setting up the booth along with the after shots.

BEFORE:
Our good friends Jorge and Hector from the factory bring 4 very large crates that contain all the basic items to make the booth.  You can see the first couple of walls going up.

Jorge has the walls and pillars all organized so he knows exactly which parts go together.  Notice some walls have product that has been wrapped in plastic that we put up when we did the pre-set at the factory a couple of weeks ago.

A lot of thought and care has been taken to build this booth.  The different wall papers, columns, ledges lighting and many other details.  With that said, you would think that someone could have come up with something better than this to label the crates.

Walls are up, lights on, umbrella/sign in place....but check out the mess!
Notice the large black suitcases, that is what Paula and I fill and lug to the shows.  They carry all the items for the ledges, signage and a hundred other details.  We are VERY good at packing them to the limit of 50lbs.
More mess....we can make a mess faster than most!

AFTER:
Just a few highlights of the booth.
Disclaimer - The lighting at the show is horrible to take pictures.
The overhead lighting or lack of it along with the booth lights make is tough.
It is so much better in real life.....really!!

Ticket holder display
We sewed multiple strands of the new tickets together (along with some generic tickets for filler) to make this display.  Everyone thought that the sewing would have been the hard part.  Actually the hard part was that the tickets were prototype which meant I had to cut them all apart and punch the little half circle on both ends of each ticket before I could sew them together.

Petit Carnet and Stationery Section
If you aren't familiar with 7gypsies Petit Carnet (little books) and Stationery, you are missing out.  They are fabulous and I think sometimes overlooked.  Check them out here.
Notice the cute awning.  When we first made the booth, we asked Jorge if he could make the frame work that attaches to the top of the wall.  Paula made the cute fabric ticking awning that we tie to the frame.

Collage tissue
The first time we were able to get our hands on the new tissue was Friday night before the show.  Paula and I stayed up late in our hotel room making these flowers to put on the wall and additional smaller flower for all the girls in the booth to wear.  We also decoupaged book board with the tissue....it is fabulous, goes on like a dream and looks like the images were printed directly to the board...you're gonna love it!

Camden Collection Wall
Most of this display came from Paula's house.  The vintage sewing cabinet she got for Christmas from Mr. Jay (our infamous guest blogger) who knows how to pick up on a good hint (I think the hint went like this....Paula, "Hey Jay, someone you know might like that for Christmas").  Bonus for us, cause then we can use it in the booth!  The laundry bench is her coffee table, luggage from luggage stack.  Also note the wire cage lights, we each had one and thought they would look cute hanging together.
Notice Paula in photo below....I think she is singing!...or most likely just doing a lot of talking...you do a lot of that at the shows!

Lille Collection Wall
This is my favorite of the two new collections....so much detail.  It is really hard to see what we have done here, but we attached 2 Library Drawers, an Artist Printers Tray, a Letterblock Tray, a 4x6 Photo Tray and a Letterpress tray together for this display.  This photo does not do it justice.  The details and all the little things in each section are so good!  We will do another post later telling you more about it and how you can recreate your own....so be watching.

Notice the frames on the column, they are random frames filled with the 7gypsies ATC Kit Cards.

Up close....sorry, bad picture, but you get the idea!

Other overall pictures of booth

So glad to be home, now onto the next thing!
