 Pieces of Me 

What do you see when you look at a piece of art?  Do you ever wonder what choices the artist made in order to hide messages with the work? How they incorporate signs and symbols to cleverly camouflage personal devotions in plain sight? - You know, the kinds of things that make your work privately special to you.  In this workshop we will not only explore the new Tim Holtz Oxide Inks to create a colorful background for a 9 x 12” wood panel but each piece will be filled with personal devotions. It will reflect your feelings and emotions about the people you care about most and the joys they bring you.

Perfectly Happy

If you love vintage like I do, you will love this 12 x 6 x 1 1/4” wood panel.  Distress Paint, Memoranda Paper and new Stampers Anonymous Stencils will transform a simple wood box into a piece of art.  Add in layers of idea-ology products including the new Tim Holtz Foam Stamps (plus a little trick for perfect stamping) and you have the perfect gift for yourself or someone you love.

Vagabond Society

We’ve all saved them; that scrap of vintage ribbon, the random postcard, or found trinkets.  These are the treasures of our sentimental journey through life that qualify us as part of the “Vagabond Society.”  Join me in a paying homage to eclectic gathering in creating a 5 x 7” zig-zag book to showcase and celebrate the art of accumulation.  The ephemera inspired Memoranda paper, idea-ology metal trinkets as well as some vintage finds will transform the simple foundation into a layered book that unfolds to tell your story in a very unique way.  We will be working with Ranger Distress Grit-Paste, crayons, paints and inks.  Combined with Stampers Anonymous stamps and stencils for added details and we’ve got a vintage look you’ll love.

Scrapbook Island

Just a quick recap on the weekend at Scrapbook Island.  What a fun group of ladies that came to class.  I taught 3 classes over the two days.  My friend Richele Christensen drove almost 3 hours to help in the classroom and provide comic relief.  Thank you Richele for your kindness, friendship and the amazing sample you brought to share with everyone!
I thought I could share a few pictures from the classes that were taken by Laurie (the amazing owner of Scrapbook Island) and Richele.  Thanks girls!

Thank you to all who came!  Kathi, Julie, Bonnie, Connie, Frances and Maryl and of course Ruby.  Jayne and her Neighbor (notice I capitalized it Jayne?).  Sharon and Lisa, Sonja and the other Sonia, Jamie, Gretchen, Donna, Terri, Kelle, Joyce, Jan and Tammy, Veronica and Florence, Erin and Rocio, Christine.  Laurie, Linda and darn it I am missing one of the three "L" names!  I know I have missed some others but glad you all could come!

 Again, a huge shout out to Laurie at Scrapbook Island for inviting me to be a part of the Island family.  I loved every minute of the weekend and I can't wait to come back.

Classes and a Compendium of Curiosities winner

Why is it when I am stressed about forgetting something I always have a dream that I am working back at Millers Outpost (a retail clothing store) and I can't remember the combination to the safe.  I worked for them almost 20 years ago, yet it is same thing every time.  The brain is a funny thing!  Just a couple hours away from leaving for South Africa so the "trying to remember" thing is in full effect.  If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram (luckyday) I will be posting pictures when I can.  I am quite sure Mario will be doing the same. 

Now that the new product is in the warehouse I will be teaching some classes.  The first of which is only 3 weeks after I get home!   I will be at Scrapbook Island in San Jose, CA on April 4th and 5th....teaching 3 classes: the large Collection folio, a Mini Configurations book and a Worn Cover Journal.  If you live in the bay area and are interested in taking a class with me, please check out the link on their Facebook page or call the store for more information.  I will be teaching these classes at other stores so if you don't live in the bay area I just might be coming to a town near you.

Out and About

(pronunciation - oot and aboot)

We will soon be making a return visit to "The Great White North".  Last year we had the opportunity to teach some classes at The Scrap Yard in Calgary for our good friend Lori Wilson-Bunda.  This year she has asked us to return for a special event being held at this lovely resort.  

Nakoda Lodge, is nestled in the Canadian Rockies on beautiful lake Chief Hector.  We are so excited, not only to get to go to this gorgeous place but to spend time with this fun lady as there will never be a dull moment.

We have never seen anyone make a Charlie Chaplin moustache out of a scalloped metal paper edge (until now).  Convenient that the metal paper edge comes with a sticky back.  Although this picture doesn't show it, she had the matching eyebrows at some point during the class.

Just to give you an idea of how colorful she is, check out her cool boots.  

We got to celebrate her birthday while we were there....it was great fun!

While we are there we will be teaching our new class called,

"My Ten"

This new 7gypsies mini drawer has 10 numbered cards with journaling lines on the back to write out your own unique "TEN".  It might be 10 things I love, 10 people I love, 10 places I have visited, 10 people who have inspired me, 10 Ways to Leave Your Lover (oops! sorry, that's a Paul Simon song and I am sure it is copyrighted, so we can't use it), but you get the drift, right?  We will be using 7gypsies new paper line Lille in the 8 x 8 scale for inspiration in creating the cards with a bit of ephemera thrown in.  We also will be using a whole 'lotta Ranger products from Perfect Pearls to the new Distress Stains in combination with Perfect Pearls Mists,  just a bit of 10 Seconds Studios Metal and Alcohol Ink thrown in for good measure.  We will create enough cards and tags to fill the mini drawer with a bit of room left for photos representing your 10.  Each drawer will be unique, using words, numbers and initials you choose to make your own personal statement.

On the Road...

We apologize for not posting more pictures of the Advent but we had to stop collecting for a few days and make some kits for this weekends classes.  Today we are at Scrap Happy Sisters in Glendale, AZ and then tomorrow at Making Memories Unforgettable in Tucson, AZ.  Then we fly to Texas for a visit with our sisters and 3 classes at Crop, Paper, Scissors in Waco.  This will be the first time we have taught in Texas (we normally just shop there) so we are excited to meet the ladies.

This is just a beginning of the Tray class kits we are teaching in Tucson and Waco.  Good thing Debbie has a great big island in her kitchen to set out the kits.  The sad thing is that the advent calendar has taken over all of Deb's big studio, one guest bedroom, and the large kitchen table so this really was the only place we had to even make the kits.  Sad but true!  On the other hand all the sparkly silver glitter, old paper, and a forest of little trees is great encouragement that the kit is worth all the effort... love those little trees.

Boy, we have been busy packing kits, traveling and teaching this week with one more stop to go.  

We had a terrific time seeing old friends at Pocketful of Treasures.  More than 1/2 of each class were girls we had met the first time we were in Fresno...Pam, Gerri, Catie, Becky, Caytee, Jan, Robin, Kristi, Donna, Rebecca, Jennifer, Megan and Janice, Rosa, Josie....the list could go on and on.  Such a lovely group of ladies. Super friendly with us and more importantly, with each other.  Wish we lived a bit closer so we could visit more ofter

Deb and I wanted to show a sample of the Receipt Holder for our store visit.  The one problem...we didn't have one.  So we packed up a bin full of the new Conservatory papers, a small piece of canvas, Roma book covers, a couple Petit Carnet books, a few old keys, wire and a glue stick.  Oh, and one old button.  Really anything that we could grab at the last moment as we walked out the door to Fresno. After our make and take party on Friday night we went back to the hotel and made this.

Love working with the Receipt Holder.  Really one of my favorite products as of late.  I love that you can change everything out on a whim or as the seasons change.  I love the idea of (even though it could be costly) of clustering 4 or 6 together on one wall for a HUGE impact.  I think it could be fun to add photos, quotes, notes, etc under the wire clips.  A really "NO GLUE" project.

Scrap Happy Sisters

Deb and I had a great time at Scrap Happy Sisters!  This was our first time teaching here...what a great store! 

 Deb and I taught a new class that we put together for 2010 called "Bits and Pieces".  The structure for the class is the new 7gypsies ATC tray.  Love working with the tray...so easy to fill up the little squares.  The class also explores image transfers- the best way to do them and how to use them in projects.  I love it when you can see the lightbulb go on...and they say, "I get it!".  

We also taught an ATC spinner class.  It was the last time we will teach this class so it was like saying goodbye to an old friend.  

We had such a great time... hope to see you again in the spring!
