Can't seem to get enough of them.
I was lucky enough to be sent one of the new "Shatter" Layering Stencils that was released today. Super fine lines of webbing make up the stencil pattern...is it shattered glass? or a web? or a kaleidoscope? I think it could be all of them depending on color and technique used. Today, I decided to go the shattered glass Halloween route. Follow along with me!
Gather some supplies:
Non Stick Craft Mat
Layering Stencil - Shatter
Black Soot Distress paint
Blending tool with foam pad
Distress Glitter - Spiced Marmalade and Pumice Stone
Mirrored
Lay the Shatter Stencil over a small piece of Mirrored, on the Non Stick Craft Mat. Pounce the blending tool into the Black Soot paint.
Holding tightly onto the stencil, pounce the blending tool over the stencil until the Mirrored becomes black.
Lift the stencil and clean immediately with wet wipe or water and a dry towel.
While the paint is still wet, pinch a very small amount Distress Glitter and sprinkle over the wet paint. Notice I didn't say "pour" the glitter on. For this technique a pinch or two will do!
Once dry and cool, rub off any excess Distress Glitter with your fingers.
The surface has a lot of visual texture, but it's amazing how smooth the surface is when you run your fingers across it. Kinda weird, but very cool.
I covered a piece of chipboard with black cardstock then cut it out with the new Sizzix Ornate Frame Bigz die. Don't you love this die? One of my all time favorites.
I made a pattern of the center oval with a little border. Now you might be saying, "why don't you just use the center that came out the die?" The answer...the center is somewhere on my desk and I can't find it. It's just that simple.
Use the pattern to cut the Mirrored. Adhere to the frame.
I pulled out my pad of Laboratorie paper to make the card front.
I chose one of my favorites with old prescriptions on it.
Before adding the frame to the card front I decided I needed some black flowers. I had these left over from another project but they were really puffy and had a hard center.
Not any more.
I first painted the flowers with Black Distress Paint and let them dry. Once dry, I pounced a bit of Distress Paint in Brushed Pewter over the black. Creepy overkill on the paint I know.
I cut two feathers using the Sizzix Mini Feather and Inkwell set and Grunge paper. Then painted each feather with Crushed Olive and Dusty Concord Distress Paint. While the paint was till wet I dipped them into Distress Stickles Dry Glitter - Clear Rock Candy.
Next step is adding the beautifully creepy flowers. I scrunched them up before I glued them to the frame. I also had a large vintage silver leaf that I cut into three pieces and tucked under the feathers and flowers.
Just for some added detail, I cut two small pieces of Linen Ribbon, then stretched it till it was more like webbing.
I colored the two pieces of Linen Ribbon with Peeled Paint Distress
stain, then just folded it in half and tucked it up under the flowers
for a cool effect.
A little Dusty Concord Distress Ink around the edges and we're done! Love it!
Oh, I did add this guy from the Remnant Rubs to the inside of the card!.
Hope this inspires you to get going on your Halloween card making!
